What pairs best with the holidays? A Visit to Doffo Winery in the Temecula Valley. Spend a weekend exploring our vineyard and tasting our wines. Meet the winemakers and fellow wine enthusiasts. And join us for our annual polenta party!
The Polenta a la Tabla tradition started in Italy, when our great grandparents would have family gatherings and had to feed a large number of people all at once. The solution was to take a large piece of wood, which was sanded down and cleaned and then placed on top of a long table. It was easier to feed larger families in this manner. Traditionally, polenta is a food that the poor commonly ate in Italy.
In the early 90’s, my grandfather Don Armando was visiting from Argentina and was having a conversation with my father Marcelo about old family traditions. He mentioned that they used to eat Polenta a la Tabla in Argentina – the same way his father had done so in Italy. From then on, the Christmas Day Polenta party became a tradition for us Doffos here in California. We all looked forward to Christmas Day Polenta because it was really about enjoying the food and the family. We celebrated on the 24th of December and had a huge dinner, as we waited for Santa. We then spent Christmas Day, December 25th relaxing, having a good time and eating more good food!
Once we introduced the Polenta a la Tabla to our Wine Club members, there was no turning back. It quickly became one of the best and most popular of our wine club events. We are so fortunate that our members took to our tradition and appreciated the simplicity and meaning behind it.
