When it comes to California wines, Cabernet Franc is one of those varietals that many wine lovers are not as familiar with compared to more popular red varietals like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, or Zinfandel. While it does not get as much attention or praise, a well-made Cabernet Franc has the potential to pair beautifully with a hearty meal. It can also be a fine example of a balanced yet complex wine.
Our 2016 Cabernet Franc is made entirely of estate-grown grapes. We aged this wine for 14 months in a mixture of 2nd and 3rd use medium/medium+ toast American oak barrels. We selected used oak for this wine because we wanted to impart less of the strong, oaky characteristics that often come with new barrels.
The result is a delightfully balanced wine, showing classic aromas of strawberry, green pepper and plum on the nose. This medium-bodied red dances over the palate and is followed by a long, drawn-out finish.
This wine is ready to enjoy now, or can be aged in your cellar for an additional 3-5 years. We recommend pairing it with a hearty meal like grilled pork chops.
This was a limited-production run made primarily for the Doffo Wine Club, so we don’t expect it to stay on our shelves for very long! Click here to get your 2016 Cabernet Franc in our online shop, while supplies last!
