Warehouse coordinator Bryant Camacho has quickly become a prominent figure at Doffo Winery. But don’t let the title fool you; Bryant lends a hand in various departments around the winery, from assisting in the Tasting Room to helping process Wine Club shipments, even stepping into wine production! We caught up with Bryant to find out more about his background and how he ended up here at Doffo Winery. We hope you enjoy getting to know him, and next time you visit be sure to say hello!
Where are you from?
I was born in Escondido, CA, however, I spent most of my early childhood/school between Mexico and the States. My earliest memories come from my parents’ rancho/small town.
When did you first become interested in wine?
Working as a bartender I’ve always had an interest in alcohol, including wine. I always knew I enjoyed wine but I could not tell you why I liked it. It wasn’t until I started working here at Doffo that I learned how to explain the “whats” and the “whys.”
Tell us what it’s like to work in the wine industry
Working in the wine industry is like a chess match. You have to play the long game. Every piece is different and essential. Opportunities will appear and some won’t be glamorous, but they are crucial. I came to work at Doffo by chance. I became friends with Samantha Doffo throughout the years and an opportunity to come over to work with the Family came up. I started at the beginning of Harvest 2017 and they put me to work! I think my first week working harvest I put in about 70+ hours or something crazy like that. I think they were testing to see if I would turn tail and run but here I am 3+ years later, happy, experienced, and still learning about wine.
What is it like to work at a family winery?
It is exactly what one would expect when you work with Family. We have great days and some tough ones, but in the end we all come together and get things done. We see each other sometimes more than our own families and I think that is what has created this Team that works and functions together and treats each other like family. I can’t imagine another winery out here having the camaraderie that we have.
What is your favorite part of what you do at Doffo?
If I had to choose one thing, it would be the opportunities that come up. At most jobs you have your routine tasks and responsibilities which can make it seem mundane. Along with Doffo, MotoDoffo has created a unique side to the business that no other winery can claim. I have gotten the opportunity to work and learn in various departments and that has broadened my knowledge and appreciation of wine and motorcycles.
What is your favorite Doffo wine?
Hands down my favorite Doffo wine is the Tiarella, although the Petite Sirah and Cabernet Franc are close seconds. The Tiarella was the first experience I had with wine where I understood and truly appreciated the complexity of a wine. To be blunt, I knew I was drinking the “good stuff.”
What upcoming wine releases are you most looking forward to?
I don’t know if I’m allowed to say that. I know we have some very special wines aging at the moment. When they are released I’m sure I’ll have to fight our Wine Club Members for a bottle or two. I can’t wait for the new MotoDoffo line to come out next year and see all the new artwork by this next featured artist.
What is your favorite meal / Doffo wine combo?
One of my favorite combos is a bacon wrapped chicken breast, stuffed with chimichurri, cream cheese, and diced jalapeños and a glass (or two) of our Salute. But then again I wouldn’t say “No” to a glass of Doffo with any meal.
Anything else you’d like to include?
Working for Family and Friends has made coming to work so easy! We all enjoy traveling so it’s great to work with a Family that enjoys traveling as much as I do. I’m looking forward to my own and the company’s growth over the years. I plan on being here for a long time and seeing Doffo Winery be Temecula’s Favorite and Coolest Winery ever!
