Tasting Room Senior Staff Member Melody Ross has been providing wine club members and guests alike with the premium “Doffo Experience” for years, and yet she still approaches each interaction with a passionate exuberance for wine. We caught up with Melody to find out more about her background and her time here at Doffo Winery. We hope you enjoy getting to know her a little better, and next time you visit be sure to say hello to her!
Where are you from?
I was born and raised in Vancouver, Washington and spent my adult life in Los Angeles.
When did you first become interested in wine?
In my twenties I did a lot of traveling in Europe. The wine regions of Italy and France in particular really left a lasting impression on me.
How did you end up working in the wine industry?
I was on vacation in Oregon overlooking Mount Hood, and it brought me back to my childhood. Glass in hand on a lavender field, I decided to begin my journey.
What is it like to work with the Doffo family?
Fantastic! No one works harder than the Doffo family! Being able to talk to and learn from Damian, Sami, Brigi and Marcelo is priceless.
What is your favorite part of what you do at Doffo?
My favorite part is providing a great experience with customers through the passion of wine. Watching the smiles as they walk away happy with Doffo wine in their arms always feels good! I also love to welcome new wine club members to the family.
Tell us a little about your wine education and why it’s important for what you do.
I just completed my Certified Wine Specialist course sponsored by the Temecula Valley Winegrowers Association, and am currently taking classes to get my first level sommelier credential. Building trust and relationships with the customers that come through our door is extremely satisfying, not just on a professional level but on a personal one as well.
Do you ride motorcycles?
No, I don’t ride, but I love the idea that the creation of MotoDoffo has brought wine lovers and moto enthusiasts together over a common bond, which is terrific fun.
What is your favorite Doffo wine?
The Zinfandel Reserve and the Private Reserve Cab….it’s all in the handcrafting!
What is your favorite meal / Doffo wine combo?
Ossobuco, a side of spinach with lemon, paired with a 2009 Zinfandel Reserve.
Anything else you’d like to include?
I’m proud to be part of the Doffo family team! It’s incredibly rewarding to be part of the team that won WINERY OF THE YEAR! Team work really does make the dream work! I am truly blessed!
