Welcome to our Featured Wine series! Each month Damian will profile a Doffo wine, giving you a little bit of back story about the winemaking process, what to expect when you taste it, and what kinds of foods to pair it with. We hope you enjoy and visit us soon to learn more about our handcrafted wines! October is a double feature month, as we will profile our two newest wines that are included in this month’s Doffo Wine Club shipment: 2014 Malbec & 2014 Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon.
Starting things off with our 2014 Malbec, this wine was made of 100% estate fruit and underwent whole berry fermentation. This process, in combination with the 18 months in new and used American oak barrels yielded a wine with big structure and supple tannins, both hallmarks of our Malbec.
Our 2014 vintage highlights the best characteristics of this varietal. Straight away you’ll notice the ruby red color has tints of violet, and the strawberry and vanilla aromas give way to coffee and tobacco. This wine has a long lasting finish with fine oak tannins.
We always recommend grilled meats with Doffo chimichurri when preparing a meal alongside our Malbec. The smoky flavor of the meat and the strong herbal bite of the chimichurri is balanced nicely by the powerful flavors of the Malbec.
The 2014 Malbec is ready to enjoy now through 2023, so grab a few bottles while you can and bid farewell to the summer with one last barbecue! Order your 2014 Malbec today.
We produced our first Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon in 2003, and to this day we still use fruit from the same estate vineyard. Our 2014 Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon was aged no less than 22 months in 50% new French oak and 50% new American oak, an homage to the barrel program that my father Marcelo used to make that very first batch.
This approachable wine is dark violet in color, with hints of bell pepper, cherries and ripe plumb in the aromatic profile. The balanced tannins deliver incredible mouth-feel with an everlasting finish.
My favorite meal to pair with this wine is roasted rack of lamb with garlic mashed potatoes.
This wine is ready to drink immediately, but should age well for 5-7 years in bottle. Click here to add the 2014 Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon to your collection.
