I am really excited to share simple techniques for stress reduction and natural first aid and more. I have always been interested in alternative healing. Growing up, my parents always stressed the importance of health and wellness. They were always active and constantly educating themselves on alternative health options. As much as western medicine does for us, our entire family always seeks alternatives, from old farm remedies passed on from our grandparents to eastern philosophy.
As some of you already know, I teach yoga. I believe that wellness of the mind and body comes from a healthy balance. Practicing yoga helps maintain this balance. My interest in yoga started in college at the University of California – Santa Cruz. I decided to become a yoga instructor after the passing of my daughter in 2006.
Here’s a Doffo Wine factoid: the dessert wine “Los Nietos – a late Harvest Syrah” was created by my father Marcelo in honor of my daughter and the other Doffo grandchildren. “Los Nietos” ages for 5 years and is rarely available. The label is a replica of a tattoo I have on my back in her honor. You can see the label framed in the tasting room, it is a lion cub with a halo.
I believe that going through my certification process helped me during this really dark time in my life. I originally did my 200 hour teacher training in Riverside at Inland Valley College of Yoga; I was blessed to have 4 teachers from different branches of yoga to give me a broad perspective and introduction. As a student we had to decide which style best suited our personality and soul. We were taught Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Iyengar, and Kundalini. I was searching for answers and healing from the trauma of losing my first born. Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan released the pain in my soul and set me on a path that would forever change my life.
Last year, I was blessed to find San Diego Kundalini Teacher Training and did the Level 1 200 training. I have to give credit and so much love and admiration to Meherbani, my teacher in San Diego. If it wasn’t for her unwavering commitment to making me participate and offering me a scholarship when I needed it most, I never would have done it. The following 6 months of training revealed my true purpose and identity. This training encouraged me to be more authentic and live my truth. My little brother Damian said to me, “Go do you, I got your back”. That simple statement gave me strength during a very difficult time. I have never looked back; in fact I recently finished the first of 5 training courses to get my Kundalini Level 2 certification.
I would love to share my love for yoga, health, and wellness with others. It has helped me get through some of the toughest times in my life and I would love to encourage others who might be dealing with their own struggles. I know that my kids are safe from unnatural chemicals and are living a healthy life. I have also been able to reduce stress by practicing a healthier lifestyle. I am very excited for my classes to start next month on September 19th and I am excited to see how they impact others.
